Become a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE).

CVTC’s Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFEs) provide timely, compassionate, survivor-centered, trauma-informed care to patients seeking treatment for sexual assault at the Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside emergency departments.

Being a SAFE is not a volunteer position. SAFEs are on call for 12-hour shifts of their choosing, so they can design their schedule around their existing commitments.

For medical providers with a valid NYS professional license (including RNs, MD/DOs, NPs, PAs, CNMs), the first step to becoming a SAFE with CVTC is to take an introductory SAFE Training.

Click the button below to learn more about CVTC’s SAFE training options.

To become a SAFE, you must be:

  • over 18 years of age
  • a holder of a valid New York State professional license (e.g., RN, MD, DO, NP, PA, CNM, etc.)
  • able to reach Mount Sinai West and/or Mount Sinai Morningside within 45 minutes in a cab while on call
  • available for a minimum of five (5) 12-hour on-call shifts every two-month period
  • able to commit to the program for at least one year if accepted
