Become a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE).
It's time for you to fulfill that strong need within yourself that led you to become a medical professional in the first place -- the need to help those who are in crisis. By becoming a sexual assault forensic examiner (SAFE) with CVTC, you'll provide timely, compassionate, survivor-centered care to patients seeking treatment for sexual assault.
Our SAFEs provide quality medical care and emotional support to survivors of sexual assault, including evaluation, treatment, forensic evidence collection, referral and follow-up, at the Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside emergency departments. If you are an advanced practitioner, such as an MD, DO, NP, PA or CNM, all it takes to become a SAFE is our 8 hour course. If you are a health-care professional who is not an advanced practitioner, such as a registered nurse, you can become a SAFE by taking our 40-hour curriculum that includes a clinical component. Being a SAFE is not a volunteer position. SAFEs are on call for 12-hour shifts of their choosing, so you can design your schedule around your existing commitments.

To become a SAFE, you must be:
- over 18 years of age
- a holder of a valid New York State professional license (e.g., RN, MD, DO, NP, PA, CNM, etc)
- able to reach Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside within 40 minutes in a cab while on call
- available for a minimum of two 12-hour on call shifts per month
- able to commit to the program for at least one year if accepted
