Community violence is an umbrella term for acts of violence that use a knife, gun, fists, and violence motivated by hate–committed in public areas.
If you have survived community violence, we know that life may not feel the same as it did before. CVTC can help you regain a sense of control and heal from what has happened. We define community violence broadly as violent acts committed against one person that also have the potential to impact the community. It's really important that you get medical attention immediately in an emergency. At Mount Sinai West, Mount Sinai Morningside, Lenox Health Greenwich Village, Long Island Jewish Forest Hills and Brookdale Hospital, your injuries will be treated and you will be able to connect with CVTC while you're there. No matter where you go for medical treatment, you can still call CVTC for help afterwards. And if you don’t have medical insurance, CVTC can help you get reimbursement for the hospital costs from New York State.
YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL REIMBURSEMENT.
If you have been the victim of one of these crimes, CVTC can help you apply for financial reimbursement from the New York State Office of Victims Services (OVS). Our OVS specialist can help you file a claim for compensation. If you don't have insurance, if you've lost wages, or if your personal property was damaged or destroyed, we might be able to help.

Many people think that after being attacked, the easiest thing to do is to try to forget what happened. Some people think that they should be strong enough to deal with what happened on their own, or that what happened wasn't serious enough to seek help.
